A volcanic eruption has started in Reykjanes Peninsula after more than 50,000 earthquakes registered since the beginning of 2021. The eruption site is located in a valley called Geldingadalur, besides Mt. Fagradalsfjall.
The eruption was registered north-east of the coastal town of Grindavík, just 25 km drive (157 miles) from Keflavik International Airport. It’s been 800 years since the last eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The magma flows from a depth of 17-20 km (10-12 mi) and is of a more primitive sort than ever seen before. This type of eruption hardly occurred since the end of the Ice Age.
This is a great opportunity to explore the volcanic eruption with our private tours in the morning, afternoon, or evening.

Highlights: This is a private hiking tour to the Fagradalsfjall volcanic eruption in Iceland. About 1h 45 minutes walking and hiking each way, plus one hour at the eruption site to take pictures, walk around or meditate.
We start by driving from your pick-up location (on request) to the starting point or meet at a location in Grindavík town, 20 min drive from the hiking trail.
After driving to the trail parking place, we'll be ready to start the hike. Your tour guide will offer you an overview of the area and other important geological information about the Reykjanes Peninsula, where this eruption is going on.
The hiking distance is about 10km (6.2 miles) and is moderate, including parts of the path with some elevated hills. The elevation is 343m (1125ft). You walk and hike for about 1.45 min (3.1 miles) each way, adding the time we spend at the eruption site taking pictures and having a wonderful moment.
After arriving at the eruption site, we will have some time for pictures and snacks. We return through the same path or different path after this astounding adventure.
We offer morning, afternoon, and evening departures. We have almost full daylight in Iceland during the summer, making it possible to enjoy the evening tours as the morning tours.
The evening tour offers more natural light options and better contrast for the photo's composition for those who would like amazing pictures.
